Decade Gala Concert

30 May 2018

Ten years ago this coming summer, Only Men Aloud became the Last Choir Standing, winning the BBC1 primetime show and becoming Britain’s favourite choir. To celebrate this anniversary, Only Men Aloud are heading to the Wales Millennium Centre to perform a Decade Gala Celebration Concert– a celebration of the last ten years.

They will be performing many of their hits from the last decade and delighting audiences with their unique sound, style and perfect harmonies.

The Decade Gala Celebration Concert at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff will be on Sunday the 21st of October, starting at 4pm, where they will be joined by some of their performing friends, who have shared the stage with OMA over the past ten years.

Only Men Aloud have asked their very loyal fan group what their favourite songs have been from over the past ten years, and many of these will feature in the Decade Concert.

Since winning Last Choir Standing, Only Men Aloud have gone on to achieve great success. In 2009, their album Band of Brothers won a Classical Brit Award for Best Album of the Year. They have toured every year since winning the show, all around the world and have worldwide record sales of over 300,000.

Over the years, the hugely popular group have built up a strong fan base across the world and were honoured to be asked to sing at the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, at the very moment the Olympic Flame was lit to an estimated global TV audience of 900 million people.

OMA have given many memorable performances, with numerous appearances at outdoor festivals and proms. They have performed twice at The Royal Variety Performance, been seen on numerous television programmes and are familiar faces at sporting events; they sang at the opening ceremony of the Ryder Cup in 2010 and the Ashes in 2015. The group have undertaken many successful tours of the USA including performances at the famous Ravinia Festival in Chicago, the Smithsonian Festival in Washington DC and the North American Festival of Wales in Minneapolis.

OMA have now recorded five studio albums and plans are taking place for a sixth. Recent notable engagements have included performing at The UEFA Champions League Final Celebrations in Cardiff, and a trip to Mumbai in India for the group’s very first appearance in Asia.

Only Men Aloud

Who are Only Men Aloud?

Only Men Aloud were formed in 2000. The group's aim was to inject some new blood into the Welsh male choir tradition. The group's repertoire is varied and eclectic, from Welsh folksongs and hymns to musicals and opera, from barbershop and swing to pop.

The choir won The BBC's Last Choir Standing in the summer of 2008, and released their debut album shortly afterwards, which went gold in the UK.
