The announcement comes with both choirs flying high. The Men have had one of their busiest summers ever. They claimed their place in history when they performed in the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics to an estimated global TV audience of some four billion people. They have also just finished a sell-out summer tour, masterminded the opening concert of the National Eisteddfod of Wales with over 400 performers on stage, performed at a series of outdoor summer proms events and all this while mentoring Only Boys Aloud and Only Kids Aloud through a very full summer of rehearsals and performances.

Only Boys Aloud have just announced a record deal with Sony Music that will see the release of their debut album this November. This comes hot on the heels of achieving third place in ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent contest earlier this year. The Boys have also been wowing audiences throughout the summer, at an Olympic Celebration concert at Eirias Stadium in Colwyn Bay in July, and along with the other members of the Aloud family, at the opening concert of this year’s National Eisteddfod in the Vale of Glamorgan. Next week the boys headline at the Battle prom as part of the Tawe festival in Swansea.

Music Director for both Men and Boys is Tim Rhys Evans. Tim said: “We started Only Men Aloud to take a fresh look at the male choir tradition, and with Only Boys Aloud hoped to recruit future generations of choristers. The phenomenal success of both groups on an international platform not only proves that the Welsh male choir tradition is still going strong, but that it remains as relevant to the 21st century as it always has been. The chance to bring both groups together is something we always relish, but these concerts will prove to be something very special indeed, will celebrate Christmas and wrap up what has been a momentous year for the aloud organisation.”

Only Men Aloud

Who are Only Men Aloud?

Only Men Aloud were formed in 2000. The group's aim was to inject some new blood into the Welsh male choir tradition. The group's repertoire is varied and eclectic, from Welsh folksongs and hymns to musicals and opera, from barbershop and swing to pop.

The choir won The BBC's Last Choir Standing in the summer of 2008, and released their debut album shortly afterwards, which went gold in the UK.
