National Eisteddfod

29 Jul 2016

8pm

The Monmouthshire National Eisteddfod Opening Concert 2016.

Only Men Aloud, Gwawr Edwards and Rebecca Trehearn.

Joining Only Men Aloud is soprano Gwawr Edwards, a familiar face to the Eisteddfod audience, both as a concert soloist and as a highly successful competitor.  Now firmly recognised as one of our best sopranos, Gwawr has performed in concert halls across the whole of the UK and beyond, and is a much sought-after soloist and performer throughout the country.

Although this is Rebecca Trehearn’s first performance at an Eisteddfod concert, she is a well-known actress and performer here in Wales and further afield.  She has made a big impact in London’s West End, appearing in a number of shows, including Dirty Dancing and Ghost.  She is currently starring in The Cruicible’s production of Showboat, directed by Daniel Evans.

Only Men Aloud

Who are Only Men Aloud?

Only Men Aloud were formed in 2000. The group's aim was to inject some new blood into the Welsh male choir tradition. The group's repertoire is varied and eclectic, from Welsh folksongs and hymns to musicals and opera, from barbershop and swing to pop.

The choir won The BBC's Last Choir Standing in the summer of 2008, and released their debut album shortly afterwards, which went gold in the UK.
