Only Men Aloud Welcome New Tenor - Steffan Hughes

After holding auditions earlier this year, we are delighted to announce a new addition to our ranks; Steffan Hughes.

Steffan is a 22 year old tenor from Denbighshire in North Wales.

After growing up with a rich folk music background, he trained classically and graduated with a First Class Music Degree from Cardiff University in 2015.

During his time there, he received the Sir Geraint Evans prize twice for outstanding vocal performances. In 2016, as well as winning the Lady Herbert Lewis memorial Prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, he was also accepted into the Bardic Circle.

Recently he won the Bryn Terfel Urdd Scholarship competition at the Stiwt Theatre, Rhos.

Steffan is also the Musical Director of Aelwyd y Waun Ddyfal youth choir, based in Cardiff.

Steffan is not replacing anyone in Only Men Aloud, but will join the OMA team as we continue to perform right across the World as an eight piece vocal group.

We’re looking forward to performing with Steffan, in another new chapter in the life of OMA.

Who are Only Men Aloud?

Only Men Aloud were formed in 2000. The group's aim was to inject some new blood into the Welsh male choir tradition. The group's repertoire is varied and eclectic, from Welsh folksongs and hymns to musicals and opera, from barbershop and swing to pop.

The choir won The BBC's Last Choir Standing in the summer of 2008, and released their debut album shortly afterwards, which went gold in the UK.
