BBC Music Day & 50th Anniversary of Severn Bridge

06 May 2016

To celebrate BBC Music Day and the 50th anniversary of the Severn Bridge, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Amy Wadge has composed a special song to perform on the bridge. Only Men Aloud will join Bristol's Gospel Generation Community Choir and Renewal Choir at the Aust viewing area to jointly perform the song.

BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Radio Gloucestershire will broadcast live on BBC Music Day on June 3rd 2016.

The Severn Bridge was opened by The Queen on September 8th, 1966 and replaced the ferry service crossing from Aust to Beachley. The new bridge provided a direct link for the M4 motorway into Wales and has now carried more than 300,000,000 vehicles since it was opened.

Who are Only Men Aloud?

Only Men Aloud were formed in 2000. The group's aim was to inject some new blood into the Welsh male choir tradition. The group's repertoire is varied and eclectic, from Welsh folksongs and hymns to musicals and opera, from barbershop and swing to pop.

The choir won The BBC's Last Choir Standing in the summer of 2008, and released their debut album shortly afterwards, which went gold in the UK.
