ONLY BOYS ALOUD JOIN THE MEN ON STAGE FOR CARDIFF CHRISTMAS DATE

The world’s biggest boy band, Only Boys Aloud, will be joining their mentors Only Men Aloud on stage for their sparkling We Need A Little Christmas festive show at St. David’s Hall on December 16th (tickets: stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk and 02920878444).

OMA and OBA

It is hard to believe that OBA will be five years old next year, and their journey has been remarkable - reaching the final of Britain’s Got Talent, performing in the XFactor Final, recording a Top 40 Christmas album, and playing in the gardens of Buckingham Palace in the Coronation Concert. This Christmas they bring a little tinsel of their own to the Classical Brit Award-winning OMA’s hugely popular seasonal extravaganza.

Music Director Tim Rhys Evans said: “We don’t get many opportunities to bring the two choirs together these days, so it will be a real treat for the audience in what is very much our homecoming concert this Christmas. It is wonderful to ensure that opportunities continue to exist for young men in Wales to discover the power of choral singing.”

Only Boys Aloud is part of The Aloud Charity which has been set up to protect the long-term future of choral singing for youngsters in Wales. There are currently 10 regional OBA groups in Aberdare, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Cross Hands, Cwmbran, Neath, Swansea, Tredegar and Treorchy, with plans for further expansion in Wales next year. The Charity will continue to develop opportunities for both Only Boys Aloud and for Only Kids Aloud in partnership with the Wales Millennium Centre, encouraging young people in Wales to discover the joys and benefits of choral singing. A Board of Trustees was set up to oversee the charity and safeguard its future, headed by the influential figure of the Lord Rowe-Beddoe.

We Need A Little Christmas at St. David’s Hall will feature songs from Hollywood and Broadway, with OMA’s unique take on music from movies and musicals. It is the Cardiff leg of a 12 date UK tour that has become a regular fixture in the yuletide calendar, and takes in a variety of venues across the country (tickets: stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk and 02920878444).

Over the last 14 years, OMA have racked up hundreds of thousands of album sales and some incredible experiences – from winning BBC’s Last Choir Standing and the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special to scooping a Classical Brit Album of the Year Award and performing to a global TV audience as the Cauldron was lit at the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.

Who are Only Men Aloud?

Only Men Aloud were formed in 2000. The group's aim was to inject some new blood into the Welsh male choir tradition. The group's repertoire is varied and eclectic, from Welsh folksongs and hymns to musicals and opera, from barbershop and swing to pop.

The choir won The BBC's Last Choir Standing in the summer of 2008, and released their debut album shortly afterwards, which went gold in the UK.
