Only Men Aloud at the Olympic Opening Ceremony!

30 Jul 2012

Did you see Only Men Aloud at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic games?

OMA at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games!

We were honoured to have been asked by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games to sing in the premiere of 'Caliban's Dream' by Rick Smith (from dance duo Underworld) as the Olympic cauldron was lit in the Olympic stadium.

Unfortunately we were also asked to keep our involvement secret until the day of the event itself, (which is why we did not publicise it sooner!) there was so much secrecy over the event that we did not know ourselves how the cauldron would be lit until it happened! There were many theories thrown around the choir, no one guessed it quite right however.

OMA on Tor

The event itself is one that we will never forget. We have sung in many major sporting events and venues, but never on a Tor surronded by flags of the world, in front of the world's finest athletes from those countries. We were proud to represent wales in the ensemble, (the other components were from the other countries of Great Britain) and hope you agree that it was one of the best Olympic opening ceremonies we've ever seen!

Only Men Aloud

Who are Only Men Aloud?

Only Men Aloud were formed in 2000. The group's aim was to inject some new blood into the Welsh male choir tradition. The group's repertoire is varied and eclectic, from Welsh folksongs and hymns to musicals and opera, from barbershop and swing to pop.

The choir won The BBC's Last Choir Standing in the summer of 2008, and released their debut album shortly afterwards, which went gold in the UK.
