The Welsh Variety Extravaganza

03 Mar 2023

Sing, dance, and laugh the night away with an evening of incredible Welsh talent.

Along side OMA, we will be sharing the stage with from singer/songwriters Amy Wadge and Dafydd Iwan, Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden, comedian Mike Bubbins, musical theatre singer Sophie Evans, star of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Victoria Scone, with more to be announced.

Comedian, Mike Bubbins, takes a breather from co-hosting The Socially Distant Sports Bar podcast to host the special evening of Welsh entertainment alongside pro-dancer Amy Dowden. The Strictly star from Caerphilly will step out of the ballroom and onto the St David’s Hall stage to co-host the evening as well as putting on a one-off special performance.

Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Amy Wadge will perform live following the success of BBC Wales drama Keeping Faith, where she wrote six original songs for the series. Most notably Amy has collaborated several times with Ed Sheeran with whom she wrote the No.1 hit Thinking Out Loud.

Star of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK & Canada vs The WorldDrag Queen - Victoria Scone, joins the incredible line-up of talent, which also includes musical theatre singer Sophie Evans. Since coming runner up on the BBC talent show Over the Rainbow, Sophie has starred in West End productions including The Wizard of Oz and Wicked.

Welsh folk singer, Dafydd Iwan, whose iconic song Yma o Hyd soared in popularity after becoming the official anthem for Wales' World Cup campaign will also treat us to a live performance on the night.

Acts will be supported by our in-house band, along with professional dancers and a special performance by Tenovus Cancer Care’s very own Sing with Us choir. Proceeds go towards Tenovus Cancer Care, supporting people affected by cancer across Wales.

BIOGRAPHY

Only Men Aloud

Who are Only Men Aloud?

Only Men Aloud were formed in 2000. The group's aim was to inject some new blood into the Welsh male choir tradition. The group's repertoire is varied and eclectic, from Welsh folksongs and hymns to musicals and opera, from barbershop and swing to pop.

The choir won The BBC's Last Choir Standing in the summer of 2008, and released their debut album shortly afterwards, which went gold in the UK.
